Seeing The Extraordinary
In The Ordinary
A collection of extraordinary photographs and mixed media works by photographer/filmmaker David Ellis.
"Choses Quotidiennes" is a collection of photographs that capture the inner fixed lives, or essence, in everyday things, depicting the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary. His works are a selection of images capturing instants from the continuum of life. As a filmmaker, the images are often still frames edited from super8 film or videos. Sometimes they capture an instant as the world streams past a train window, perhaps night life or mysterious architecture or even perhaps a cafe or street life moment.
They are simple moments of natural beauty. The mixed media works often include a vintage photograph rescued from an antique shop, or are sketches in walnut ink made from pens hand carved by the artist from dry tree branches found during hikes. All the works attempt to convey "the pathos in things" or present an image that produces a question rather than an answer, and prompts a personal narrative for each viewer.
